SLIM ROSE & TIMES SQUARE RECORDS PHOTOS
These photographs of Slim Rose and his famous Times Square Records were taken in 1960.
Warren Tesoro had them until 1980. Warren as many folks know was a customer of Times Square and long time employee of Downstairs Records. Warren has been employed at Colony Records for over 15 years and is a superb vocalist with many groups including being an original member of the Lar Kings, Brooklyn Connection, Bravados. He's also sung with and is still singing with the Dubs, Eddie & The Starlites and many other groups.
Warren and I first met at Downstairs records in the 1960s when Louie Silvani was the owner and proprietor. After the 1960s we didn't see each other again until 1979 when I was working for Martin Scorsese. In late 1979 I went to Downstairs again to find music for the film RAGING BULL - specifically a copy of LONELY NIGHTS by the HEARTS, which Scorsese loved and wanted to use in the film - which he did.
In 1980 Warren showed me these great photos of Slim and Times Square. Knowing that I would take good care of them [that's according to Warren] he gave them to me for safekeeping. Around 1983 I gave copies to Val Shively. Val asked me a couple of years later if Jerry Green [Collectables records] and Eddie Gries [Relic Records] could use a couple of them on one of their Times Square Lps. I asked Warren and he and I thought it was about time that the world finally saw them. That's how they came to be published first.
Both Warren and I have agreed that the originals belong in the new library and archive of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and that's where they are going.
These are NINE of the TEN photographs in the series of photographs.
